The deadline for scheduling time to reflect on client strategy and upcoming opportunities has been extended to Monday, Feb 23rd.
It can't hurt. It will likely help. And it just might be a turning point.
November 2024, South Africa, celebrating a special boy’s 10th birthday. I’m in the red shirt on the right, enjoying a picnic after our big day with elephants and exploring glorious underground caves.
Last week, I opened my calendar for you to book a complimentary 50-minute Zoom call. The session itself can take place at a later date but reserving a spot has a deadline.
The response has been lower than expected. That means one of two things: either this isn’t compelling enough for you to prioritize, or I haven’t made the value clear. In case it’s the latter for you, I’ll endeavor to better explain why I believe this could be a valuable and productive use of our time together.
Why I could be worth engaging with.
In the 1980s, I worked full-time while attending college full-time. After graduating — when I “only” had work to focus on — I began volunteering. Discipline and service have always defined my life. To me, service isn’t an obligation but an expression of why I believe I’m here. (For those astrologically attuned, there’s a lot of Virgo in my chart.)
From 1990 to 1997, I drank from the firehose that is Microsoft, steadily working my way up the sales and marketing ladder. Those formative professional years instilled in me a profound sense of agency, the ability to respond decisively to change, and strategic problem-solving skills that have served me ever since.
I delivered three babies naturally—two of them outside a hospital setting—and have relied exclusively on holistic approaches to support my family’s health. For more than 20 years, I’ve shunned conventional and over-the-counter medications, cultivating a lifestyle rooted in natural, human principles.
In 2012, I created an online platform for providers as a legacy project that grew into a successful business. I’ve been an avid researcher for decades—and a full-time researcher for more than ten years—continually studying the evolving landscape of health and wellness.
I’m fully committed to supporting teachers and providers who empower others and achieve results beyond what conventional systems deliver. I recognize that working at the forefront of wellness requires a fundamentally different paradigm than operating within outdated institutional models. I know that you don’t “fix” people—you empower them. And empowerment requires a certain level of knowledge —knowledge that is accurate, relevant, practical, and inspiring.
I specialize in keeping my finger on the pulse of research that can inform, guide, and elevate our work—so providers don’t have to spend countless hours navigating fragmented information or filtering through establishment-curated noise.
Why now is the time.
I believe the metaphorical storm we are in is not a temporary disruption along a linear path, but a discontinuous turning point — a threshold moment and a rare opportunity for authentic creation.
With the breakdown of old systems, space is opening in ways we haven’t experienced in our lifetime. And in that space is an extraordinary opportunity: the chance to consciously shape what comes next in a way that reflects our truest values and our most heartfelt vision.
Who is going to lead the reorganization phase of this metamorphosis? I suggest that we are poised to do so — we who are already serving independently, who have stepped outside conventional structures and learned to think, build, and act with autonomy. We didn’t wait for permission. We are already doing the work. Who better to know what steps to take now?
Still, as I’ve learned, this moment calls for something more.
Those institutional systems didn’t just fail us in the obvious ways. They also progressively eroded and displaced authentic community. In that process, we lost something essential.
After years of research and meaningful conversations with fellow leaders, I am convinced that a sustainable future will be built through intentional communities that are based on shared values and conducted relationally, not transactionally.
Thus, I believe that rebuilding genuine community must be a priority. Not a re-do of large, impersonal structures but the cultivation of smaller, localized networks and loosely connected collectives rooted in shared values, mutual support, and practical collaboration.
I believe now is the time to come together.
I’ve been working alongside colleagues and communities who are stepping out and stepping up—creating alternatives, forming alliances, and modeling what’s possible. The more of us who do the same, the stronger and more coherent this next chapter will become.
A Small, Simple Step in that Direction
I invite you to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with a like-minded colleague and have a thoughtful conversation about your service work — the opportunities you see ahead, the challenges you’re navigating, and the support you may need. Sometimes what makes the greatest difference is simply having a dedicated space to reflect, clarify, and explore next steps. I’m offering that space to you.
Schedule your call here.
Sincerely,
Shelly Thorn
