Recognized Teacher (YTC-RT) Status

Yoga Teacher Central Recognized Teachers demonstrate a commitment to high standards, enabling them to serve a wide range of students with skill and discernment.

Over decades, the commercialization of yoga teacher trainings contributed to a widespread inconsistency in instructional quality, with many teachers entering the field under-prepared and without a shared baseline competency. In contrast, our Recognized Teachers have been proactive in going beyond conventional requirements.

Teachers Who Studied with an Authorized Trainer

Teachers who earned their teaching credentials with a Yoga Teacher Central Authorized Trainer have invested in a high-quality education that is comprehensive and well-structured, emphasizing rigor, precision, and real-world application. We also provide a pathway for other yoga teachers to demonstrate their knowledge and ongoing dedication to professional development, and to receive formal recognition of their standing.

Yoga Teacher Central Recognized Teachers (YTC-RT)

Teacher Application

Our aim is to keep the Recognized Teachers program accessible, efficient, and transparent.

Requirements

Enrollment: One-time processing fee of $35 for lifetime recognition, plus either:

• Completion of a teacher training with a Yoga Teacher Central Authorized Trainer, or

• Teaching credentials, a Yoga Teacher Central teacher membership of any length (expired memberships acceptable), and a passing grade on the knowledge exam

Applicants Receive

Upon enrollment, you will receive:

• A Knowledge Standards Study Guide

• A 10-day pass for online access to all study resources

• Five credits to use in the Download Library (for lifetime access to materials of your choice)

Pathway to Recognition

If you trained with an Authorized Trainer, we’ll verify your training and add you to the directory.

If you trained elsewhere:

• We’ll verify your credentials and your Yoga Teacher Central teacher membership — or invite you to join.

• Upon enrollment, ($35), you’ll receive a study guide and access to the learning materials.

• You may take an optional practice exam ($10), then the knowledge exam when you’re ready ($15).

• Upon passing the exam, you’ll be added to the directory.

Recognized Teachers

Once we’ve verified your credentials:

• You’ll be added to the directory

• You may use the designation YTC-RT (Yoga Teacher Central – Recognized Teacher)

• We’ll provide badge artwork for use in your materials

Trainers: Claim Your Free Benefit

If you have ever held a Trainer membership with us, you are recognized as an Authorized Trainer and also as a Recognized Teacher (YTC-RT) if you’d like to use it.

We wish to acknowledge your commitment to high standards by:

1. Extending automatic recognition to your trainees, and

2. Offering you a free gift from our Store or Download Library - just let us know what you’d value at this time

We would like to ensure your trainees know they have this preferential treatment. (No exam required. Everyone else will be required to pass a 100-question exam.)
