A friendly reminder that we want to avoid decontextualized information that gives us a false sense of certainty by implying it's providing the “right” answer. Here's how.
Search engines rely on algorithms designed and defined by tech companies. I’ve found that for many real-world needs, including those of teachers and providers, human-led curation is superior.
Dear friends and colleagues,
Tomorrow is Friday the 13th and just to offset the weirdness in this world, I’ll let you know that two of the most positively empowering days of my entire life happened on Friday the 13ths. Later I got curious enough to look into it a bit and lo and behold, I found that in some traditions, 13 isn’t considered “unlucky” but rather is “a feminine power number” linked to “feminine cyclical wisdom.” I don’t have any sources I trust on that subject to forward you to, but I can share my personal experience, and there you have it. :)
On to what I wanted to share about today…
I previously discussed Using Context to Individualize Wellness Strategies where I offered detailed considerations for providers, who need concrete ways to evaluate context in a way that holds up under real world conditions.
Today, I’m giving an example of one of the ways I’ve endeavored to help you meet this challenge.
Search engines rely on algorithms designed and defined by tech companies. I’ve found that for many real-world needs, including those of teachers and providers, human-led curation is superior. Of course, we humans use technology when we’re curating, but to get high quality results requires a whole heck of a lot of human intervention.
When you’re seeking information, I invite you to explore our curated collections and see for yourself how they guide you not only to what you’re looking for more efficiently, but also more effectively by providing thoughtfully crafted foundations, context, and related material offered in a well-organized way.
Another distinct advantage of starting with curations like these is that they avoid the false sense of certainty that often comes from decontextualized sources that imply they are giving you the one “right” answer. If you do an internet search and a few of the top search returns cover your subject, it’s easy to feel you’ve done some decent research. But while those may or may not be well-matched hits, they don’t offer what educators and providers need. With human-created curations like ours, you’ll be introduced to multiple ways of approaching a subject and given access to a broad range of resources to support you in addressing the real-world situations you’re working with.
I invite you to access reliable portals here: Search, Find, Research, Explore. The subjects are listed below, followed by a sample exploration.
